In order to accurately cut the fabric you will need a rotary fabric cutter for quilting, a self-healing cutting board, a square ruler, a quilting ruler, and a pair of scissors. Once you have these items you are ready to start following these steps provided to making your very own quilt.

The first step you want to do is actually pre-wash the material. This step is often left out, but by washing the fabric first, it won’t shrink or bleed its colors later on in your finished product. The iron the fabrics.

The next step is to place the fabric on the cutting board and make sure it is correctly lined up and straight. After this, you will take your second ruler and place it where you would like to make your cuts.

A helpful tip is to make sure that the ruler is even, so that you have a straight line cut in the fabric.

Once you have the ruler set in place, take the rotary cutter and cut the fabric along the ruler.

For best results you should cut while standing to increase the angle between you and the fabric, allowing an easier cut.
